You often see members of the Knights of Columbus on special occasions — parades, marches and pontifical Masses. They are known for carrying swords while donning tuxedos, capes and feathered hats. They also are known to host fish fries, spaghetti dinners and pancake breakfasts. They organize golf outings and Tootsie Roll drives to support the Special Olympics and other charities for the mentally disabled. They are known for their principles of “Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.” But surprisingly, even though they have a presence at nearly every parish in our diocese, most people are unaware of the knights’ extensive contributions in support of the Culture of Life — an involvement that can be traced back to the beginning of the movement and has never wavered.
